The International Workshop ISM2018 is the ninth in a series of biennial Indian Strings Meetings, the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth of which were held at Allahabad in December 2002, at Khajuraho in December 2004, at Puri in December 2006, at Pondicherry in December 2008, at Puri in January 2011, December 2012 and December 2014 and at IISER Pune in December 2016. The Indian string theory community jointly organizes these meetings. The objective of these meetings is to have a gathering of young researchers and experts in String Theory and related areas in an atmosphere, which stimulates expression and elaboration of new ideas. The academic plan is to have a few broad review talks, in addition to seminars, followed by several focused discussion sessions.

The ISM this year will also be a part of the series of events at IISER Thiruvananthapuram to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the institute.
